Javier Salinas
Mexican League


Sports marketing and business strategy leader Javier Salinas was named President of the Mexican League following the 2017 season, succeeding Plinio Escalante.

Salinas has worked in various capacities of sports marketing since 1999, including the Mexican Football Federation (2011-2014), FIFA U-17 World Cup Mexico (2011) and Liga MX (2012-2014).

Prior to joining the Mexican League, Salinas served as the Sports Director for Grupo Expansión from 2014-2017. He has also taught classes in marketing, digital marketing, sports sponsorships and innovation for more than a decade, is an advisor of the National Soccer Federations of Jamaica, Peru and Panama, and has contributed as a sports commentator and columnist in Estadio W and Radio Fórmula.

In 2014, Salinas was named one of 50 Digital Leaders in Mexico by InformaBTL, was included by Expansión magazine on the list of 30 Mexicans Leading Mexico’s Economy and was acknowledged by the marketing magazine Merca 2.0 as one of 50 Marketing Leaders in Mexico in both 2014 and 2017. Salinas has also been honored as Professor of the Year by the Johan Cruyff Institute in 2007, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Salinas earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications Sciences from Universidad Latina de America and his master’s in Football Business Management from Johan Cruyff Institute, with postgraduate studies in Sports Sponsorships from Escuela de Negocios del Deporte.
